We must go higher in our journey toward health and wholeness. Medicine is beneficial but ultimately, no medicine can overcome the attacks of the devil or the massive amounts of toxins in the environment that are being dumped upon us and which are increasing daily. Our tools in the natural realm will not be enough. They are already not enough.
Brain retraining is beneficial – even more so than medicine in many instances, because God designed the brain to control the body, not the other way around. And so many Scriptures attest to the power of our thoughts and words to shape our reality: Eg, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue…” God admonishes to “take our thoughts captive” because He knows that our reality is shaped primarily by our thoughts, words and behaviors. And yes, I know how hard that is when your brain is on fire and you feel like a truck ran over you daily.
Yet no matter what our circumstances or our bodies clamor for us to believe, it is the Spirit of God, in cooperation with our human spirit – that was designed to be the master controller of our mind, emotions and body and to have ultimate dominion over them – and even the Earth.
Only God’s Spirit within us can fully overcome complex chronic illness. Only a personal relationship with God can overcome the deepest and most difficult trials and sicknesses that life throws at us.
Our battle is not against man, or the contamination of the environment. These things, while real, are products of the higher battle which is ” … against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12.
It is from the position of the supernatural and the Heavenly realms that we must fight, from the top down, and not the other way around. So, if we focus on medicine, and make our spiritual life, our healing and our relationship with God—a side note, and medicine our god, our gains in recovery will be limited.
Or, we may heal our bodies for a while, but at the expense of receiving the ultimate healing and joy for which we were designed—and that is a deep, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
I don’t condemn anyone who has looked to medicine for their healing. I too, have used medicine to get help me get to a place where I can think clearly enough to be able to pray and fight in the spiritual realm. And it helps – a lot. But I am also deceived whenever I believe that medicine is the tool that will enable me to access God, when God and His Spirit in me are above all created things.
The new age movement says we are body-soul-spirit beings. God says we are spirit-soul-body beings. It’s the other way around, Friends. The spirit has authority and dominion over the soul and body.
Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it. Trust me, when I was going through the torture of a 3-year protracted benzodiazepine withdrawal process, mostly in isolation and following the loss of my husband (and while battling this chronic illness stuff!) it was hard to believe that God in me was greater than my messed-up biochemistry.
And for a long time, I didn’t feel like I was winning the battle, but I have been slowly gaining revelation that it isn’t about mental prowess or physical stamina as much as it is about a deep, heartfelt revelation that greater is God who is in me than he who is in the world (the devil), and greater is He who is in me than my physical environment.
If we are seated with Christ Jesus in Heavenly places, I believe there is a place we can get to in the spiritual realm where we can live above much of the junk of the natural world; above our emotions, above our negative thoughts and above the strategies of the devil.
I know, when you are going through drug withdrawal, severe sickness or other serious trials, it can feel impossible. And sometimes we do need others to fight for us, and hold our arms up, and our heads high, because the battle is too difficult to do alone.
But how many of us have ever gone deeper and asked, “What demons might be behind benzo withdrawal, Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and other diseases?” Because if the battle is against powers, principalities and spiritual hosts of wickedness in high places – then why do we invest more energy in fighting from the lower levels, or the natural realm?
We need to go higher, and realize that disease isn’t just the product of broken relationships, a contaminated world, infections, toxins and things in the natural world. It is a product of Satan’s work on Earth, either directly or indirectly.
Toxins and infections are real. But God and His Word are ultimate Truth, and if He spoke the world into existence, then we too, can overcome our reality by our thoughts, words and behaviors, and with the ultimate Truth. This truth is that He, God, came to Earth in the form of a man—Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and sicknesses, and to give us His Spirit, so that we could conquer every evil thing that this world would throw at us: whether demonic oppression, mold, Lyme, rejection, hatred, abandonment, shame, and all the rest.
But to access the higher level of healing, joy and peace that He died to give us, we must cultivate a relationship with Him and believe Him when He said, “I Am in you and you are in Me.” (John 14:20). We must know He is for us, not against us, and He wants us to have life, and life more abundant.
We must know the power, authority and ability He has given us to overcome and most importantly, how much He loves us. We must know that it is less about our personal efforts, and more about believing Him, trusting Him and knowing that He can do in us exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to His riches and glorious power within us.
I am not there. If I were, I wouldn’t still entertain ideas about doing radical mold avoidance from time to time, and I wouldn’t fall prey to trusting more in medicine, a method or a program than in my Savior Jesus Christ, or the Word of God to heal me. But I have enough revelation about His truth to be able to aim to live it out daily, and share it with others.
Indeed, as someone who has now authored or co-authored nearly 20 books on integrative medicine – and only a couple on divine healing – my knowledge of medicine probably exceeds my revelation knowledge of God’s Word, because I spend more time with my mind in medical research than with Him planted in His Word.
But He is shifting my perspective again, and as I labor daily to put what truly matters first—and that is my relationship with Him, I believe I will be able to soon walk in greater health and freedom, as God uses me to impart His wisdom to others. Because we all need a higher level of revelation about His love for us, and His power, desire, willingness and ability to heal us. And we need Him, above all things.
In the meantime, 10-pass ozone has been giving me some much-needed energy, mental clarity and mood stability that I have needed for a very long time. A little oxygen to my brain and body (along with God!) has helped to remind me that I am in fact, not weak; I’m a strong, stable and powerful person who carries the Spirit of God and the Kingdom of Heaven within me—just like you! Don’t let symptoms, disease, the devil or others tell you otherwise.
Because, as some of you know, the enemy takes advantage of brain illness and isolation to convince us that we are weak, powerless people in whom the power of God doesn’t really reside. It is a lie, friends. He in you is the Author of all life; the Creator of the Universe, the Great I AM, and He loves you more than you can imagine. And His power in you is greater than you can imagine.
If you are like me, you’ve been shamed for your tears. You’ve lost friends or family because of your physical, emotional or mental struggles. You’ve been at labeled as spiritually or emotionally weak.
But the greatest battles go to the strong. The enemy attacks those of us who love God and who want to do good in this world. If you have persisted in pursuing God in your weakness, when all hell has conspired to destroy you, discourage you and take your life—you are among the strongest of the strong—not the weakest of the weak.
And it is in this stronger moment that I want to remind all of you, as I remind myself, that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). No matter how you feel, no matter how much your body and brain and emotions seem to fail you daily—and no matter what others say.
I lost several of my closest women friends following the passing of my late husband Bill two years ago. All long-term relationships. It broke my heart, after my heart was already shattered from the loss of Bill. I have walked a very lonely road since then.
I felt judged for my tears and the trauma of drug withdrawal and the dark, dysfunctional thoughts that it and the loss of my husband caused. But I have had to remind myself that most people cannot and will not walk with you through a prolonged journey of intense suffering. And it’s OK- I have forgiven them, thanked them for their support and what they were able to do for me, because they were all a wonderful blessing for a time —and that truth has enabled me to move on and leave the sadness behind.
Freedom is found in forgiveness, and when you forgive, you release a prisoner, and that prisoner is you.
I now believe too that God is sifting and re-organizing my relationships to align more with His plans and purposes for me in the days ahead. He may be doing the same with you, too.
Some good-byes are for good, even if at the time they hurt.
We are living in a time when we can’t afford to be absent from God. Our relationship with Him is what matters, far and above any other relationship or activity in our lives. If we only give Him 15 minutes at the end of our days though, what does that say about our priorities? He wants to be our First Love, above all others in our life.
Again though, I don’t condemn or judge anyone, as I am just as guilty of making God a footnote at the end of my day, because the one thing that the devil works hard to get all of us to believe is that our time with Him is a waste, or optional. The enemy wants us to believe that the most important relationship that we have, and the most important tool that God has given us for our freedom—the Word—really does less for our joy, wellbeing and health than those little white pills that we ingest daily, or that new age practice which promises to elevate us to a higher level of consciousness. But Friends, it’s not so.
God is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End of all things—and our greatest weapon, healing, and all that we need for life and godliness are found in Him. Let’s put Him back on the throne, and dethrone the gods of medicine, Lyme disease, mold, disease and anything and everything else that clamors for our attention from the realm of darkness.
Let’s kick that rat called the devil to the curb, and acknowledge God’s love, power and sovereignty in our lives. For He has put all things under His feet, and ours, so that darkness no longer has dominion over us.
If you’re like me, you don’t always want to spend time with God because you can’t “feel” Him, or you think He’s disappointed in you. But I encourage you to press in, because He loves you, He’s pleased with you, and He is for you, not against you. If you find that hard to believe, I encourage you to look deeply at the Cross of Jesus Christ and meditate upon the fact that He died a brutal death on this earth over 2000 years ago, so that you could be set free from sin and sickness on the Earth, and be with Him forever in Eternity. That’s how valuable you are to Him. That’s how much you mean to Him.
I still love medicine. It has helped me tremendously at times – and it has also caused me to have setbacks in my healing. But the highest level of healing is found through a relationship with God, and all of us who claim Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior have a power greater than all medicine—living inside of us. Let’s endeavor to know Him, and make Him our most important Love. Because it’s through the Cross, His Word, and the deep love relationship that we have with Him, that we can ultimately not just be healed—but made whole.
God bless you…Love you All!
